What is a creditor?

A creditor is a party (e.g. person, organisation, company, or government) who you owe money to.

Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is another way of dealing with debts you cannot pay.

Bankruptcy can be a complicated process and a decision about whether or not to go bankrupt should not be taken lightly. Whilst you are bankrupt any assets you have may be used to pay off your debts.

Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs)

An Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) is an alternative to bankruptcy if you are unable to afford your monthly debt repayments.

It is a legally binding contract between you and your creditors (who you owe money to) to pay all or part of your unsecured debts.

Debt Management Plans (DMPs)

If you struggle to meet repayments on the debts you owe, a Debt Management Plan (DMP) may be an option for you.

A Debt Management Plan is an informal agreement between you and your creditors (who you owe money to) to repay your debt by making one payment per month. This payment is tailored to you and is distributed fairly between all of your creditors. We will work on your behalf to negotiate with your creditors and manage these payments so you don’t have to.
