Scottish households benefiting from insulation
July 2011
MSP Kenny MacAskill has praised Carillion Energy Services in Scotland for helping hundreds of households in his constituency cut their fuel bills and carbon emissions.

Over the past year almost 1,500 homes in Edinburgh Eastern have received a mix of loft and cavity wall insulation, or draught proofing.
In many cases the work has been carried out free through initiatives such as the Universal Home Insulation Scheme (UHIS), which helps private households and is taking energy efficiency improvements across the housing stock in Scotland to an entirely new level.
To see the benefits first hand Mr MacAskill visited his constituent George Fyfe, who has had loft and cavity wall insulation.
Mr MacAskill said: “The work undertaken by Carillion Energy Services through schemes such as Universal Home Insulation Scheme shows clearly how hard-pressed households can help protect themselves against rising energy costs. Insulation may not seem the most exciting home improvement, but it is undoubtedly one of the best and most sustainable ways of making heating more affordable – particularly if our winters are going to be as severe as the last one.”
"According to the Energy Saving Trust, loft insulation can typically save households up to £145 a year, while cavity wall insulation can cut energy bills by around £110. The greater energy efficiencies can also lower annual carbon emissions by a tonne.”
Formerly Eaga, Carillion Energy Services is at the forefront of the low carbon economy and of efforts to tackle climate change.
From its Scotland operation based in Livingston it has around 300 staff and works with a number of councils, local authorities and private customers to provide a range of large scale green energy solutions including insulation, heating and renewable technologies such as solar PV, ground and air source heat pumps.
