North East enterprise celebrates a warm success for 7 million people across the UK.

This weekend, more than 800 people from around the globe will journey to the North East to celebrate the outstanding efforts of one of the UK’s top social enterprise companies.

The Eaga Group, which was started in 1990, was founded to tackle fuel poverty, and over recent years has worked tirelessly to help warm up the homes of more than 7 million people in the UK.

The 15th anniversary celebrations taking place this Saturday (December 3, 2005) at the iconic Sage Music Centre in Gateshead will be a chance to bring together hundreds of staff from what is now Europe’s largest residential energy efficiency provider to celebrate a very warm success.

As testimony to the outstanding achievement of the staff at Eaga Group, the Prime Minister Tony Blair will himself be addressing the 800-strong party to congratulate them in a pre-recorded personal video message.

He said: “During the last 15 years Eaga really has made a difference and can be proud to know that they have helped over 7 million vulnerable people across the UK to live warmer, healthier and happier lives as a result of their efforts.”

John Clough, Chief Executive of the Eaga Partnership who will be speaking at Saturdays’ event said: “This will be a unique occasion not only to recognise the hard work of recent years, but also to unite the 1,600 employees now working for Eaga in operations in the UK, India, Canada and Ireland.

“When I started Eaga, it was in a one room office above the bank on Collingwood Street and fifteen years ago I couldn't have imagined that today Eaga Group would be a truly a global network, a family of companies that provide solutions to social energy and environmental problems on an international level.”

Throughout its 15 year journey, Eaga has continually shown it’s commitment to the service of customers and employees alike. As well as being short listed for 2005’s National Business Awards in the customer focus and employer of the year categories, Eaga has also appeared in the top 40 of The Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to Work For Index for the last two years running.

John Clough continued: “None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication shown by our growing network of employees. As Eaga expands, on thing remains true. We’re not just another fast-growing and ambitious enterprise - we’re a family. Like any good parent, I want to allow our offspring to be different and individual, to go out and make it on their own. I’m incredibly proud that so many of our staff will be travelling from around the globe to celebrate this great occasion together.”

With an IT based facility now operating in India, Eaga has more than 60 staff in the country working primarily on advanced IT consultancy in the GIS and mapping market.

This weekend will be their first trip to the UK and for most of them, the first time they have left their homeland.

Deb Mukherjee, Managing Director at Eaga India Private Ltd said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for my team being the first time that many of them have visited the UK.

“It has been a long journey to get here and we’re all looking forward to a warm welcome from the North East, although I understand that snow has been forecast which would a new experience for many of the team. Eaga has supported the staff from India Private Ltd in everything from arranging passports through the high commission and setting up travel from India - for this I’m hugely grateful.”

John Clough added: “This anniversary celebration is not only about recognising the hard work of the past 15 years but also looking ahead to the future. Having recently won the £1.5bn government Warm Front contract we are now faced with the tough target of lifting a further 2 million vulnerable households out of fuel poverty.

“I believe this weekend’s event will mark the start of new chapter for Eaga as a major UK business delivering product services and solutions across public and private sectors. As a dynamic and fast growing commercial organisation committed to employee co-ownership, Eaga plans to continue its track record of using strong company values to facilitate lasting social and environment change.”
