MP Robin Walker praises Warm Front

15 September 2010

Newly elected MP Robin Walker has seen first hand how the Warm Front Scheme is helping households in his constituency.

The Worcester MP has also urged more people to apply for help.

Managed by green services company Eaga, Warm Front provides heating and insulation grants to households on qualifying income and disability-related benefits. Measures installed through the Scheme can keep people warmer in winter and help cut annual heating bills by hundreds of pounds through energy efficiency improvements.

Since 2000, more than 3248 households in Worcester have received help through Warm Front including 75 year old constituent Mrs Mary McMahon who recently had a new boiler installed under the Scheme.

Showing the work to Mr Walker, Mrs McMahon said: “I am delighted with my boiler. The installers worked really hard, were very courteous and cleaned up after them. I now have a reliable source of heat and hot water, which is lovely and really essential at my age, especially with the colder weather coming’.

Mr Walker said, “As MP for Worcester, I am extremely keen to meet as many local people as possible and to understand how Schemes like Warm Front are making a genuine difference. It may be the end of summer but we are likely to get another harsh winter like last year, which was one of the coldest on record for many years.

At the same time fuel prices are likely to keep rising and we know that the best way to keep heating costs down on a sustainable basis is to make our homes as energy efficient as possible. Having seen the difference Warm Front has made for Mrs McMahon, I would urge all those who feel they may qualify for help to apply’.

Eaga also offers a Benefit Entitlement Check (BEC) through the Warm Front Scheme, to ensure households claim what they are entitled to. More than £4 billion in benefits goes unclaimed each year.

In the past year Eaga has offered BEC assistance to more than 70,000 households across the UK, increasing incomes by an average of £30 a week.
