Future Leaders Programme

Future Leaders is a internal programme designed to develop talented people within the business.

The program runs every year, and is available to everyone who has been with Carillion Energy Services for 12 months, are not in a second line leadership role or above and have good internal references.

The program includes involvement in additional company projects to gain a thorough understanding of how the Business functions as a whole, access to a personal mentor, regular attendance on leadership and personal development courses, completion of a Social Responsibility project, and regular review of their Personal Development Plan.

Profile  of Gareth

I joined the Carillion Energy Services call centre as a temporary member of staff in October 2004 after taking a year out to travel. I originally thought the position within Carillion Energy Services would be a stop gap, but as I enjoyed the role I decided to stay.

My current role is that of Strategic Development Manager, sitting in our Corporate Services operation.  It is a commercial role which involves a lot of networking.  The best part of the job is the variety that it brings, I don’t have a typical day, one day I may be talking to an inventor about a new product that they would like us to bring to market, the next I can be involved in contract negotiations for a multi million pound scheme.

In September 2009 I was selected for the Future Leaders programme. Part of being selected was the opportunity to go to Tanzania to work on a charitable project. Whilst there our group worked as a team to repair a school and to put in place a water harvesting system for a community living near to Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Once this work was completed we felt elated with our achievements but after getting to know the community a little more we realised that they needed a lot more help. We decided to pool our funds and built more water harvesting systems, built new cow sheds and chicken coops, and bought goats, chickens, and coffee plants. The idea was to enable the villagers to generate their own income – a sustainable solution.
