Profile of Oliver Whitmore - Apprentice

"I became an apprentice two years ago. As part of the scheme I am placed with different engineers across various areas of the trade.
I am currently working with a engineer that specialises in roof work, installing and maintaining vertical flue systems, which is really interesting and I learn a lot from my mentor.

I get on well with all of the Engineers, feel part of a great team and really enjoy helping them with their work whilst at the same time gaining vital industry knowledge.

The great thing about the job is the variety; every day is different, the breath of work is exciting and I get real job satisfaction knowing I’m helping our customers."

Apprentices will be enrolled at a leading college and will gain an NVQ level 2 and 3 in plumbing. This will give apprentices a wide range of skills in plumbing at an NVQ level 2 and go on to specialise in gas at level 3. Gas training revision sessions will be held in the final year to prepare apprentices for the accredited certification scheme (ACS) which is the qualification required to join the gas safe register (previously CORGI) and work on gas appliances. There will be training days available throughout the apprenticeship to attend courses run by Carillion Energy Services in customer excellence and personal development, potentially high achieving apprentices may qualify for our leadership programme in their final year.  As the apprentices will be based all over the country they will also regularly be bought together for team activities.
